Ilha Grande
A car-free tropical island just a few hours from Rio. Gringos love the low infrastructure, the crystal-clear water, hidden coves and beautiful beaches. From Rio: Transfer to Conceição de Jacareí, then a short boat ride to the island.
Lençóis Maranhenses
An extraordinary landscape of endless white dunes and freshwater lagoons, with tiny Atins making the perfect laid-back base for exploring the national park. From Rio: Fly to São Luís, then transfer to Barreirinhas or Atins.
Salvador
Colourful, energetic and full of history, Salvador is one of Brazil’s cultural highlights, with beautiful colonial architecture, Afro-Brazilian culture, incredible food, music and beaches. From Rio: Around a 2-hour direct flight.
Fernando de Noronha
A protected Atlantic archipelago with spectacular beaches, turquoise water, dolphins, turtles and some of the best snorkelling and diving in Brazil. From Rio: Fly to Fernando de Noronha, usually with one connection.
Florianópolis
State capital of santaa Catarina, an island city in southern Brazil with surfing, hiking, seafood and a mix of lively beach towns and quieter escapes surrounded by nature. From Rio: Around a 1½-hour direct flight.
Iguaçu Falls
One of the most spectacular natural sights in South America, with hundreds of waterfalls surrounded by subtropical rainforest on the border of Brazil and Argentina. From Rio: Around a 2-hour direct flight to Foz do Iguaçu.
Jericoacoara
A relaxed beach village surrounded by huge dunes and freshwater lagoons, known for kitesurfing, buggy adventures, spectacular sunsets and barefoot evenings. From Rio: Fly towards Jericoacoara or Fortaleza, then continue by transfer.
Trancoso & Caraíva
Approved by Beyonce - two dreamy beach towns on Bahia’s coast: Trancoso for the colourful Quadrado, beautiful pousadas and restaurants, and Caraíva for sandy streets, wild beaches and an even slower pace. From Rio: Fly to Porto Seguro, then continue by private transfer.
